How to replace the battery in a Honeywell Garage Tilt sensor
Locate the sensor that has a low battery (by verifying the zone number and location of that sensor on the alarm panel).
Place the alarm panel in Walk Test mode.
Go to the sensor on the garage door.
Locate the locking tab on the sensor.
Depress the locking tab with a tool of some kind (a butter knife or small screwdriver works well).
Once the locking tab of the sensor has been released, pull the lid of the sensor away, freeing it from the sensor, and exposing the inside of the sensor.
Now that the sensor is open, you can see the battery located inside.
Remove the old battery from the sensor, by pulling it straight up out of the battery tray.
Now that the battery has been removed from the sensor, replace it with a new CR123A (or equivalent) Lithium battery.
Pay close attention to the orientation of the battery in the battery tray. The battery will have a positive side, and a negative side, and the battery case will have the proper orientation marked.
Once the battery has been replaced, you will need to replace the cover on the sensor.
Secure the end of the lid opposite the locking tab, then rock the lid down over the locking tab securing it in place.
Now that the lid of the sensor is properly secured onto the sensor, we will want to reboot the panel. Once the panel has been rebooted, test the sensor by opening the sensor that was affected. If no Low Battery warning returns, the sensor has been fixed. If the Low Battery warning returns, the sensor may need to be replaced, at this point contact our Tech Support department.
If your 5822T Garage Tilt sensor is showing open all the time, complete the following troubleshooting to fix it.
Make sure that the sensor is positioned properly. Go to the tilt sensor, and make sure that the arrow on the cover is pointing straight up. (The arrow can be difficult to see from far away.)
Open the garage door and make sure that the sensor is horizontal with the ground.
Close the door making sure that the arrow is straight up. .
Check the alarm panel, if it still shows that the sensor is open, contact our Technical Support department for further assistance.
The 5822T Garage Tilt sensor can cause false alarms if it is not installed properly, make sure that the sensor is installed properly and securely with the arrow on the sensor pointing straight up.
The 5822T Garage Tilt sensor can also cause false alarms if the door shakes a lot because of excessive wind. If you are receiving false alarms during times of high wind, try moving the sensor to a different, more secure location on the garage door.
If you have tried all of these steps, and the sensor is still setting off false alarms, contact our Technical Support department for further assistance.
Locate the sensor that is tampering by verifying the zone number, and location of that sensor on the alarm panel.
With the sensor’s cover removed, you will adjust the tamper switch of the sensor. Locate the tamper switch, and bend the free end of the tab upward giving it more room to articulate, and impinge on the tamper switch.
Now that the tab has been bent, close the lid of the sensor. To do this, secure the end opposite the locking tab,
then rock the lid down over the locking tab securing it in place.
Now that the lid of the sensor is properly secured onto the sensor, we will want to reboot the panel.
Once the panel has been rebooted, test the sensor by opening the sensor that was affected. If no tamper warning returns, the sensor has been fixed. If the tamper warning returns, the sensor may need to be replaced, at this point contact our Tech Support department.
