False alarms on a Honeywell Motion Detector

There are several things that can cause a false alarm on a 5800 PIR motion detector including, heating/AC vents, pets, stoves, and windows. A good way to test the sensor, is to cover it with a piece of paper, or a towel, or something similar. Continue to arm the alarm system on Away with the motion sensor covered, and if the false alarms continue, that sensor is most likely broken and will need replacement. If this is the case, contact our Technical Support department for assistance.

The alarm panel will occasionally show that the motion sensors are faulted, this is simply because they have been tripped by someone moving in front of them. This is no reason for concern, if it happens while you are trying to arm the alarm panel, simply wait until the fault clears and then arm the alarm panel. If the fault on the sensor never clears, further troubleshooting will be required – contact Technical Support for assistance.

Loss of supervision on a Honeywell Motion Detector

If a 5800PIR motion sensor is showing a loss of supervision, this means that for whatever reason, the sensor is not being monitored by the alarm panel. To ensure that the sensor is being monitored properly perform the following troubleshooting steps.

1. Perform a Walk Test on the sensor (Click here and read "How to test a Honeywell Motion Detector" if you don't know how). If the sensor trips on the panel, it is being monitored. If not, further troubleshooting will be required.
2. If this sensor has a history of low battery, the battery may have died completely, and is no longer being monitored as it no longer has power. If this is the case replace the battery in the sensor. (Click here and read "How to change the battery in a Honeywell Motion Detector" if you don't know how)
3. Ensure that the sensor is within range of the panel. It needs to be within 150 feet of the panel, with minimal interference, (walls, doors, etc.) If signal strength is the issue, you can confirm that by performing a Go-No-Go test. If you do not know how to do this contact our Technical Support department for assistance.
4. If none of the above steps explain the loss of supervision of the sensor, you will need to contact our Technical Support department for assistance.

Tamper on a Honeywell Motion Detector

1. Locate the sensor that is showing a tamper by verifying the zone number, and location of that sensor on the alarm panel.
2. Place the alarm panel in Walk Test mode.
3. Go to the sensor.

4. Locate the locking tab on the sensor.
5. Depress the locking tab with your finger (or small tool) and open the sensor.

6. Now that the sensor has been opened, you will place it back on the mounting plate, making sure that there are no gaps between the sensor and the mounting plate.
7. Secure the sensor into the notches at the top of the sensor.
8. Now rock the sensor down to lock it in place on the mounting plate.
9. Now that the sensor is properly secured onto the mounting plate, reboot the panel.
10. Once the panel has been rebooted, test the sensor for proper function. (Click here and read "How to test a Honeywell Motion Detector" if you don't know how)
11. If you have followed these steps, and the sensor is still tampering, contact Technical Support for further assistance.
